Intensive English Programme

Course Structure

The Intensive English programme is specifically designed for students who want to enhance their English proficiency by dedicating more time to practice. This programme offers a combination of our General English classes in the morning and additional speaking-focused sessions in the afternoon. In total, students engage in 20 lessons of General English and 10 additional conversation lessons per week, adding up to 22.5 hours of instruction. The course is tailored to help students rapidly improve their fluency, with a balanced focus on grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

Summary

In the morning sessions, students follow the General English syllabus, which covers essential language skills through a blend of grammar, vocabulary, speaking exercises, and interactive activities. These classes are designed to build a strong foundation in all four key language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. In the afternoon, the focus shifts to speaking practice in a more informal and relaxed setting. Here, students engage in discussions on various interesting and relevant topics with their classmates, allowing them to practice and refine their speaking skills. These sessions provide valuable opportunities to use idiomatic expressions, functional language, and conversational phrases that are commonly used in everyday English.

Eligibility

This course is open to all students aged 18 and above, regardless of their current proficiency level. Whether you are a beginner looking to build your English skills from the ground up, or an advanced learner seeking to polish your fluency, the Intensive English programme is designed to meet your needs. The course is particularly beneficial for students who are preparing for exams, planning to study or work in an English-speaking environment, or simply wish to communicate more effectively in English. The only requirement is a genuine desire to learn and a commitment to participate actively in both morning and afternoon classes.

Schedule

The Intensive English programme is structured to provide comprehensive language learning throughout the day. Morning classes run from 9:00 AM to 12:15 PM, focusing on the General English syllabus. After a lunch break, the afternoon sessions resume from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, with a specific emphasis on speaking practice. This schedule allows students to immerse themselves in English learning for a significant portion of the day, reinforcing what they’ve learned in the morning with additional conversational practice in the afternoon.

Note: During weeks that contain a public holiday, EEC-ITIS implements an extended hours policy to ensure that students receive the full benefit of their classes. Morning lessons are extended by 45 minutes each day, running until 1:00 PM, and afternoon classes are extended by 25 minutes, finishing at 2:55 PM.

Assessment

Assessment plays a critical role in the Intensive English programme, ensuring that each student is placed at the appropriate level and is progressing as expected. Before starting the course, all students undergo an initial placement test that evaluates their current language abilities. This test helps to place students in the right class for their proficiency level, ensuring that they are neither overwhelmed nor under-challenged. Throughout the course, progress tests are administered regularly to monitor development and provide targeted feedback. At the end of the course, a final test evaluates the overall progress made, and students receive a certificate of attendance or completion, reflecting their achievements.
