Maltese Language Course

At EEC-ITIS, we offer an Award in Maltese as a Foreign Language (MQF Level 1, 4 ECTS). This engaging course introduces you to the basics of the Maltese language while giving you an insight into local culture and everyday communication. It is ideal for beginners wishing to develop essential skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

Schedule: Mondays & Thursdays, 6–8pm
Location: EEC-ITIS, San Gwann
Duration: 13 weeks (with a 2-week break in December)
Total Hours: 100 (52 contact hours, 40 self-study hours, 8 assessment hours)

What You Will Learn
Our Maltese Language Course will cover the foundations of the language, including:
Basic vocabulary: everyday themes such as home, village, food, family, colours, and body parts
Grammar essentials: alphabet, articles, adjectives, plural forms, pronouns, numbers, and telling the time
Speaking & listening: greetings, introductions, commands, and responding to simple questions
Reading & writing: constructing basic sentences and phrases
Cultural aspects: Maltese traditions and the role of language in everyday and work settings
Assessment
60% – Classwork, homework, and roleplays (continuous assessment)
40% – Final examination (10% each for speaking, listening, reading, and writing)
A minimum of 75% attendance is required to successfully complete the course and receive your certificate.

- Maltese for Foreigners (Level A1) course book series
- Online tools such as verb.mt and Maltese language apps
